Hello World! I am Daniel Cortez, 35 years old, originally from Chile. I lived in Australia for almost six years and graduated as a Telecommunications Network Engineer.

My interest in communications began with many achievements in TV production and has now expanded into the world of telecommunications.

As an excellent team player who thrives in fast-paced environments, I believe my experience and skills will greatly benefit any company.

I arrived in Australia in June 2019, driven by the desire to explore new opportunities, broaden my horizons, and immerse myself in a different culture. From the very beginning, I embraced a variety of experiences that enriched both my professional and personal growth. My initial role involved selling entertainment products at the Surfers Paradise market, which not only allowed me to rapidly improve my English communication skills but also gave me firsthand insight into Australian business practices, customer service, and cultural dynamics.

A lifelong passion for tennis led me to participate in local tournaments, where I earned championships and formed meaningful connections through sport. This experience strengthened my discipline, resilience, and ability to thrive in competitive environments. Seeking to diversify my experiences further, I also engaged in farm work across northern Queensland—Bundaberg, Yeppoon, and Rockhampton—harvesting a variety of fruits over three months. While physically demanding, this work deepened my appreciation for Australia’s natural landscapes and reinforced a strong work ethic, adaptability, and perseverance.

Upon returning, I focused on advancing my education and professional skills. I pursued Telecommunications Network Engineering at the Australian College of Information Technology (ACIT), complementing my prior audiovisual background. Living in a student hostel near Varsity Lakes, I immersed myself in a multicultural environment, collaborating with peers from diverse backgrounds and honing analytical and problem-solving skills. During this time, I balanced studies with practical experience—returning to market sales, developing DJ skills, and performing weekly Latin and rap mixes in Surfers Paradise—demonstrating my ability to manage multiple commitments while thriving in dynamic environments.

The COVID-19 pandemic posed unprecedented challenges, requiring flexibility, resilience, and the ability to adapt rapidly. Despite these challenges, I maintained my commitment to tennis, continued collaborative learning with peers, and further expanded my technical expertise in IT and telecommunications across the Gold Coast. This period reinforced my ability to remain productive under pressure while developing both soft and technical skills essential for professional growth.

After completing my Advanced Diploma, I joined Metwide Communications as a Junior IT Support Technician. In this role, I provided direct user support in Brisbane, managing complex technical issues efficiently while gathering and applying feedback to improve processes. My responsibilities quickly expanded to include VoIP systems, Windows Server, VMware, data center operations, network infrastructure (routers, switches), and Microsoft Azure. Serving as the primary point of contact for users via phone and email, I mastered multiple systems, maintained high service standards, and balanced ongoing self-directed study—sometimes dedicating up to 12 hours daily—to ensure excellence in performance.

This professional journey allowed me to establish a strong foothold in Australia’s IT and telecommunications sector, gain over 18 months of hands-on experience, and develop skills in problem-solving, systems administration, and customer-oriented support. Living independently in Southport further strengthened my adaptability and self-reliance. In January 2025, I returned to Chile, resuming work in video editing and post-production at Canal 13, while actively exploring opportunities to re-engage with the Australian market.

I am fully bilingual, with confirmed proficiency in English and Spanish, which enables me to communicate effectively across multicultural teams, bridge language gaps, and contribute to projects in both languages. My professional goal is to continue expanding my expertise in IT and telecommunications, while integrating my audiovisual and creative experience to deliver innovative and impactful results.

I am open to new opportunities where I can leverage my combined technical, creative, and interpersonal skills—whether in IT, telecommunications, audiovisual production, or roles that benefit from cross-functional expertise.
